The Options Menu in RISC

The Options menu contains several special features of RISC.  One is a feature known as Confidentiality. With this feature turned on, users can selectively mark any individual contact as Confidential (see the check box on the RISC form). Once saved with this box checked, that particular contact record will become unviewable by those who do not know the Confidentiality Password (Executive Group). This is useful for contacts of a sensitive nature such as where Counsellors or Welfare agencies are involved.  Of course, if running on a network with multiple access locations, it is essential that your Network access rights are set so that students have no access to the RISC system and that specific staff members have appropriate access rights to the system.

RISC PhotoCapture! and RISC Student Alerts and Levels were detailed earlier in the Virtual Tour, but a new choice in v9 is the "Delete this Contact Record" option. This is useful where someone has entered a record competely incorrectly, or the same record has been entered more than once. The RISC Administrator's password is required to delete a saved contact record, because normally records entered form part of a student's permanent record at the school.

There are also two options that are concerned with dates and calendars.  By default, RISC puts today's date as the date stored with any newly created contacts. It is possible to enter multiple back-dated contacts (things that happened in the past) by setting the date for new contacts with the first option in the menu.  This is useful when you are entering several back-dated contacts.  For one-off old contacts, use the Date/Time button on the main RISC form.

When searching or reporting, it is also possible to set a date range within which to report. Normally, any queries made of the RISC database apply to the entire database. But if it is desired to report on what has happened in the last semester, term, week, or even just today, it is possible to set these or any desired specific date range. For example, if the school wishes to provide a weekly report to Year Advisers (Form Masters), detailing all contacts from the past week relating to their year of responsibility, this can easily be done.  Let's see how to do this.
