Importing Student Photos using the RISC Batch Photo Import Tool |
|
Almost as soon as RISC v7 was released, schools, in particular high schools, started asking whether it was possible to import existing student photo files into RISC instead of using the RISC PhotoCapture! utility. Of course, at the time, the answer was no. So, we went to work on developing such a tool and realised it was not such a simple thing to do because between them, schools will use various different sizes for their source photos and they will also be named in all sorts of strange ways. So this tool needed to be quite clever. We came up with the RISC Batch Photo Import Tool. This tool will not only transfer your existing photos into RISC, but it will resize them, rotate them (if required) and rename them automatically, without disturbing the original copies. And it will do it all for your whole school in a few minutes! But it's really important that you provide your photographers with a database of student names and preferably their student ID numbers for them to use to name each photo. Then they should import very easily. You can even use this tool to prepare student photos for another database you might be working with at school. It doesn't even matter if the original photos are 5 megapixels in size. The RISC Batch Photo Import Tool will shrink them right down to the tiny sizes that the RISC database uses. And for any students who were not present at the School Photo Day, you can always use the RISC Photo Capture! tool. Either way, you can quickly and easily get your student photos into RISC. The RISC Batch Photo Import Tool is now bundled with your RISC 8 and newer installation and full instructions for its use are in the RISC Help Desk. Let's now take a look at what else RISC has to offer... |
