Importing Student Data from Your School’s Admin System Base enrolment data can be exported from other school administration system databases and imported into RISC. This is an important step of setting up and maintaining RISC student records as it avoids the need for double data entry, once for your admin system, then again for RISC. By maintaining your enrolment data in your school's admin system and exporting it to RISC, you ensure accurate base data in RISC. This export/import process should be run whenever your enrolments change. Importing newly exported enrolment data into RISC replaces the previous student database files (studbase.dat and studbase.ndx), but does not affect the contacts database in any way. The instructions for producing an export file from your school’s Administration system are listed in the web page titled 'Exporting Student Information from Your School’s Admin System’. This should be done on a regular basis to allow for the student database in RISC to be refreshed with new enrolments and for leavers (drop-outs) to be removed. NOTE: Contact records for students that have left the school are maintained by RISC and can be used for future reference even though their student details are no longer in the school’s administration system. NOTE ALSO: From
RISC v8, it is now possible to import new enrolment data while other
users are still using the RISC program!
If there are no problems with the diskette or the file, the student data will be read into RISC and the STUDBASE.DAT and STUDBASE.NDX files will be refreshed. You should quickly see the names of students flashing up on the screen as the import is processing.
